Which Qlik Sense App Is the Latest? Comparing Your Work App to the Published Version

Qlik Sense splits every app you work on in two: the copy in your Work area and the version published to a stream or a managed space. In the hub they look identical — same name, same thumbnail, no hint of which one moved last. Before a deployment, many Qlik developers end up asking the same question: which copy actually holds the latest developments?

The manual way: cross-checking Last Modified dates

The usual answer is to leave the hub and go digging. You open the QMC, find both apps in the app list, add the Last Modified column and compare the timestamps; on Qlik Cloud you do the same from the app details in the hub or the Management Console. When the two dates land close together, the check degrades into opening both apps side by side and clicking through sheets, hunting for the chart you half-remember editing last Thursday.

That routine breaks down quickly. Last Modified moves whenever anything touches the app — a reload, a new thumbnail, an ownership change — so a fresher timestamp says very little about development work. Add two or three developers, each keeping a private Work copy, and you are comparing five dates and still guessing. Worst of all, a timestamp only tells you that something changed. It never tells you which sheet, which measure, or which section of the load script, so the safe move becomes re-doing work you may already have published. The cost shows up on deployment day: someone publishes the wrong copy over the live app and a week of dashboard changes quietly disappears, with nothing to restore from.

A per-app commit history answers it directly

Gitoqlok links each Qlik app to a branch of its own Git repository, so the published app and every developer's Work copy become branches of the same repo, each with its own commit history and timestamps you can trust. The Local Changes tab lists exactly what your app has gained, lost or changed since any commit — down to the individual sheet, master item and script section — and the Diff Viewer puts your sheet beside the version on another branch so you can see the difference and merge it chart by chart.
